Hand-Painted Orthodox Icons & Byzantine Sacred Art from Nazareth
Welcome to Rami’s Iconography Studio. We specialize in authentic Orthodox icons, meticulously hand-painted in the Holy Land using traditional Byzantine techniques, egg tempera, and 24K gold leaf. Every piece is a sacred window to the divine, crafted with prayer and tradition.
The Sacred Art of Iconography: Tradition & Technique

The Alchemy of Color: Egg Tempera
We follow the ancient tradition of egg tempera, mixing natural earth pigments with egg yolk to create vibrant, long-lasting colors. This technique, used by masters for centuries, allows for layers of transparency and light that modern synthetic paints simply cannot achieve. Every icon is a living testament to this timeless art.

The Uncreated Light: 23K Gold
In iconography, gold represents the Divine Light of the Kingdom of Heaven. We use only genuine 23K gold leaf, applied by hand using traditional water or oil gilding methods. The brilliance of the gold changes with the ambient light, inviting the faithful into a transcendental experience of prayer.
Faithful to the Tradition
Every icon is 'written' with deep respect for the Byzantine canon. This is not merely painting; it is a spiritual discipline. From selecting seasoned wood to the final protective varnish, we adhere to the theological rules that have guided iconographers in the Holy Land for generations.
The Artist Behind the Icons: A Legacy of Mastery
Based in the heart of Nazareth, Rami's work is a living bridge to Byzantine tradition. He is currently mentored and guided by the leading master iconographer in the Holy Land, Master Nizar Khashiboun, ensuring every piece adheres to the highest local ecclesiastical standards. His artistic foundation is further strengthened by professional training under the world-renowned master Dr. George Kordis. This ongoing guidance from the Holy Land’s top expert, combined with global academic mastery, defines the unique spiritual quality of Rami’s iconography.

How to Commission a Custom Icon
Every icon I write in my Nazareth studio is a unique spiritual journey. It’s more than just paint on wood; it’s a labor of prayer and a personal connection with the Saint being depicted. Because this process is so personal, I value direct contact with everyone who brings one of my icons into their home.

My icons are created using traditional egg tempera on seasoned wood panels. The price reflects the complexity of the sacred work: from the size and the number of figures to the intricate details of the Byzantine canon and the quality of the 23K gold leaf. Remember, a smaller icon requires even more patience and precision, and should be commissioned at least 3 months in advance to allow the layers of faith and color to rest properly.
